CARROLL GOES FOR THIRD PLATE WITH AMIS HOLIDAY Trainer Josie Carroll, who has already won two Queens Plates (Edenwold in 2006, Inglorious in 2011), will try for a third one on Sunday with Ivan Dalos homebred Amis Holiday. http://www.atleticomadridpro.com/Kids-Gelson-Martins-Jersey/ . Aboard will be Luis Contreras, who teamed with Carroll to win not only the Plate, but the Woodbine Oaks with the filly Inglorious. Amis Holiday, a son of Harlans Holiday-Victorious Ami, has only started twice this year, finishing a good fourth to Mr. Speaker in the Grade 3 Lexington at Keeneland on April 19, before a troubled third, just a neck behind the disqualified winner and Plate rival Asserting Bear, in the Marine Stakes at Woodbine on May 25. "It was a great effort," said Carroll, about the Marine. "But it was a disappointing race because the horse didnt get a clean trip and show what he could do. That was a little troubling." About the Lexington, "He ran a tremendous race. For the amount of time hed been off, I was very impressed with what he did." Last year, Amis Holiday broke his maiden at first asking and then stepped up to stakes company and promptly won the Grade 3 Grey. That effort made him the 3-5 choice to win the rich Coronation Futurity but he endured a difficult trip, ending up fifth before being disqualified. Since the Marine, Amis Holiday has been busy with four solid works, including a sharp five furlong breeze in 59 3/5 seconds last Sunday. "Hes just a very nice, very easy horse to train. He does everything you ask him to." About the Plate, Carroll, who is also the only female conditioner to ever win the race, added, "Its a big field and this horse has already had a couple of troubled trips. He just really needs a clean trip. Hes coming up to the race in really good order. Hes bred to go a distance. Everythings right about him. Now we just have to see if things work out on the day." ONE DESTINY ON EDGE, BUT SET FOR RACE One Destiny is still touch and go to make the final field for Sundays Queens Plate, but hes been training like hes ready to run a career race. The son of Dance to Destiny is currently ranked 16th on a list of 16 horses (by purse earnings) expected to start in the 155th edition of the 1 ¼-mile event. If two more horses do enter, One Destiny could be on the outside looking in as a maximum of 17 are allowed in the gate for the race. Trainer Alec Fehr, who also owns a piece of the Ontario-bred with Winston Penny, knows the potential storyline. "Are we going to get in? Were kind of on the edge, arent we?" he wondered. The answer to the first question will be answered definitively on Thursday morning at the breakfast draw for the race. But on Monday, Fehr spoke assuredly about the current condition of the horse, who has one win in three 2014 starts. "Hes doing really fine," Fehr said. "He had a really nice work (on Sunday; a bullet five furlongs in :59, breezing). Hes come out of the work in good order and very sharp today. All is well." Fehr says his tactical speed will serve the horse well. "If you look at his races, he really didnt get to run in any of his three races. Hes got any kind of speed. He can be a six-furlong horse or a mile and a quarter horse. He can be wherever in a race, but Id like to be close to the front (in the Plate)." Justin Stein, who won the 2012 Queens Plate aboard Strait of Dover, gets the call on Sunday. RHYTHM BLUES LOOKS TO ORCHESTRATE PLATE WIN NO. 3 FOR GONZALEZ Will this years edition of the Queens Plate be the same old song for two-time winning trainer Nick Gonzalez? In 2010, it was Big Red Mike who stepped up to the mike for Gonzalez and hit No. 1 on the Plate chart. Last year, it was Midnight Aria who had the veteran horseman humming a winning Queens Plate tune. This year, hes hoping Rhythm Blues will take centre stage in front of a packed house in the "Gallop for the Guineas." "My one thought all along is that he would get better the more he raced," said Gonzalez, of the chestnut son of Tale of the Cat. "His speed figures have gone up each time. I thought he ran a credible race in the Plate Trial (Rhythm Blues was fourth to We Miss Artie in the 1 1/8-mile Plate prep on June 15). He can still get better and hopefully, he is at his best on the big day." Sporting a record of one win, one second and two thirds from eight starts, the Hillsbrook Farms silk-bearer has raced at Delaware, Parx, Gulfstream Park and Keeneland, with his past two efforts coming at Woodbine. "Hes a stalker, not a speed horse," offered Gonzalez. "I dont see him being too far out of it. He isnt afraid to be in the mix, inside, outside, wherever. Weve had good fortune on two occasions to win this race. Hopefully, we can have some luck again this time." His solution to his hitting woes was business in the front and a party in the back."That would be a mullet," Norris says. http://www.atleticomadridpro.com/Kids-Santiago-Arias-Jersey/ . -- Wide receiver Sidney Rice should be fully recovered from a torn knee ligament by the time the Seattle Seahawks start defence of their Super Bowl title, general manager John Schneider said Wednesday. http://www.atleticomadridpro.com/Customized/ .cas NHL Play of the Year showdown continues today with a man whos spent most of his career on highlight reels and a goalie actually "reaching back" for a save.MIAMI -- Chris Bosh had another postgame scream. For the Miami Heat, that was outstanding news. LeBron James scored the last of his 32 points on a layup that put Miami up for good with 11.4 seconds left, Bosh capped his 30th birthday by blocking Damian Lillards layup on the final play, and the Heat blew a 17-point fourth-quarter lead before beating the Portland Trail Blazers 93-91 on Monday night. "If you talk it, you back it up," James said. "Thats what its about. We have guys in here that will deliver the words and then go back it up. That was big-time on his part." Bosh ripped into Miami after a loss at New Orleans on Saturday, saying the Heat arent playing with passion, among other colorful sentiments. He screamed again Monday, this time in celebration as time expired. "This games about passion," Bosh said. "As hard as it is during the dog days to muster it up, the spark has to come from somewhere." Wednesday wont be one of those dog days. Miami visits Indiana with a chance to close within one game in the Eastern Conference race. The Pacers lost in Chicago on Monday night. "I miss the Pacers," Bosh said. Bosh finished with 15 points and Chris Andersen had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Miami, which won for just the fifth time in 12 games. Mario Chalmers added 11 points for the Heat. Lillard led the Blazers with 19 points on 3-for-15 shooting. Mo Williams scored 17, Wesley Matthews had 15, Nicolas Batum 11 and Robin Lopez 10 for Portland, which was down 17 with just more than 9 minutes remaining. "I thought I had a pretty good look at it but Chris Bosh made a great play," Lillard said of his final shot. "He met it at the top. He went up and got it. I saw him -- thats why I floated it. I didnt think he would be able to get to it. But he met it at the very top." The Blazers shot 11 for 39 from 3-point range, taking only 35 shots from inside the arc. "Were tired of losing close games, but you cant help it to be proud of the way we competed," Portland coach Terry Stotts said. "It would have been easy to fold things up, but thats not in our DNA. http://www.atleticomadridpro.com/Kids-Saul-Niguez-Jersey/. " Miami was without Dwyane Wade for the 19th time this season, though this absence wasnt part of the season-long maintenance program designed to help his knees. Wade tweaked an ankle last week in Boston. James was on the court getting shots up for about 15 minutes with less than an hour remaining until tip-off. With his earbuds on, sweat rolling off and surrounded by three ballboys, James worked on step-back jumpers, post moves and free throws, yelling twice at himself during one stretch in which he missed three straight from the line. It was obvious: Hes had it with this Heat slide. And Heat coach Erik Spoelstra wanted the four-time MVP aggressive, so much so that he met him on the way to the bench during a first-half timeout and gave him a two-handed shove. "Just wanted him to continue to attack," Spoelstra said. James took 12 shots in the first quarter, tying his career high for an opening period. He made only four of them, three of those being dunks, and wasnt shy about expressing his frustration after a couple of plays. But he got on his customary roll in time. James made seven of his next eight from the floor, and the Heat turned a six-point deficit in the first half into an 11-point lead in the third. An 11-2 Miami run to end the half -- James had six of those points -- sent the Heat into the locker room up 46-42, and another run opened the third. Miami scored 13 of the first 19 points in the third, with Bosh getting nine and James scoring two before setting up Greg Oden for a dunk that capped the burst and gave the Heat a 59-48 lead. And for Oden, Monday carried extra significance, since he was facing the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2007. The lead was still 11 entering the fourth, and Miami opened the final quarter with a 6-0 run that pushed the lead to 78-61 with 9:15 remaining. It was hardly over, but Bosh and James wound up saving the Heat. NOTES: Chalmers tweaked his right knee and left in the first quarter after taking a misstep along the row of photographers who sit just behind the baseline. ... LaMarcus Aldridge (back) missed his sixth straight game for Portland. This was no exception. Kyle Korver scored 17 points, Pero Antic added 16 and the Hawks raced to a big lead before holding off the team with the NBAs best record, beating the weary Pacers 97-87 Wednesday night. The Hawks snapped a three-game losing streak and extended Indianas misery at Philips Arena, where the Pacers (28-7) havent won since 2006. They dropped their 12th in a row in Atlanta, the teams longest active road losing streak against any team. "Guys didnt have a lot of pop to start the game," coach Frank Vogel said. "Shots werent falling, catches were a step slow in a lot of areas. But Im proud of our guys for battling back in the second half, making it a game." Indiana looked very much like a squad playing its fourth game in five nights, not to mention having to deal with travel issues because of the arctic weather. The Pacers managed just 12 points in the first quarter and 32 in the opening half -- both season lows. Paul George led Indiana with 28 points. He didnt get much help. "This is definitely a winnable game for us, but its a tough stretch, four out of five, travel situations that we had," George said. "Its not an excuse, but its nothing to be down about at this point." The Hawks ended Indianas three-game winning streak, handing the Pacers just their second loss in 10 games. "We were playing a great team," said Antic, who scored 12 of his 16 in the first half. "We want to prove to everybody that we can win these type of games." Atlanta took advantage of their sluggish opponents right from the start, racing to a 12-0 lead before most of the sparse crowd had settled into their seats. The Hawks built a 49-32 lead by halftime and were up by as many 25 in the third quarter. "Down 12 points to start the game off, you give a team like this all the confidence in the world, them playing at home," George said. "They just played with confidence at that point. I felt like thats where we lost the game." But the Eastern Conference leaders, who never led, werent about to go that easily. They clamped down at the defensive end against a team that must spread things around to make up for the loss of centre Al Horford, out with a season-ending injury. The Pacers picked it up offensively, too, scoring more points in the third quarter than they did in the first two combined. Heading to the fourth, Atlantas lead was down to 79-66. The Pacers got as close as eight in the final period but finally ran out of steam, making only two of their last nine shots. "We were climbing uphill the rest of the way and werent able to pull it out." Vogel said. Indiana played without guard Lance Stephenson, who didnt dress because of a bruised right knee. Danny Granger started in his place, with George moving to Stephensons shooting guard spot. George lit up the Hawks, knocking down 11 of 25 from the field -- including three shots beyond the arc -- and leading the Pacers with 12 rebounds. Granger with 14 points and George Hill with 10 were his only teammates in double figures, however. The Hawks were much more balanced, overcoming a poor night by Paul Millsaps. Atlantas top scorer made only 1 of 10, but the other four starters were in double figures and Mike Scott added 15 off the bench. Atlanta got a boost before the game when Horford, who had surgery a week ago for a torn pectoral muscle, stopped by the locker room. "Were still trying to figure things out without Al," Korver said. "It takes time. Were still not there, but tonight was a great win for our team." NOTES: Korver went 3 of 5 from 3-point range, extending his NBA-record streak to 105 games in a row with at least one trey. He knocked down his first early in the third quarter from the top of the key, also drawing a foul and converting the four-point play. ... Pacers F David West went out in the second quarter with an injured right hand. He iced it on the bench and returned in the second half. ... While Millsaps struggled offensively, finishing with only four points, he chipped in with six rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block. Julian Weigl Jersey . Konerko had a big three-run double and Gordon Beckham homered for the second straight game, leading the Chicago White Sox to an 8-3 victory over the sliding Chicago Cubs. Omer Toprak Jersey . Heidi Weng was 5.5 seconds behind in an all-Norwegian podium.I worked yesterday with my coach on my classical technique, Johaug said. I knew Marit would be strong on the last hill but I could follow her. My skis were amazing. I dont think I have ever had so good skis like today.Bjoergen, who had won the previous five stages, leads Weng by 2:11.2 and is 2:50.3 ahead of Johaug in the overall standings. The six-time Olympic champion remains on course for a first Tour win when the competition concludes Sunday with the traditional climb up Mount Cermis.Second place today is great, Bjoergen said. It was only three of us fighting for bonus seconds ... I knew I had to speed on the last climb but Therese caught me on the downhill.Elizabeth Stephen of the United States moved up to sixth overall after finishing fifth, in her best resultt of the Tour. Dan-Axel Zagadou Jersey. Tscharnke recorded his first World Cup victory in more than a year as the German edged out Poltoranin of Kazakhstan to win the 15K classic in 46:48.8. Dario Cologna recovered from a fall to finish 0.4 seconds behind. Its a little bit surprise for me to win today, Tscharnke said. Thomas (Bing) and me wanted to be in the front of the pack. We helped each other. We did not focus on sprints, we just wanted to go for a good position in the finish. In the closest competition of the season, fourth and fifth places were also decided by a photo finish, with Stanislav Volzhentsev narrowly beating Alexander Bessmertnykh. The Russian duo were 0.7 seconds slower than Tscharnke.Petter Northug finished 21st and saw his overall lead cut to 3.1 by fellow Norwegian Martin Johnsrud Sundby, who moved into second. Calle Halfvarsson of Sweden slipped into third, 26.8 behind Northug.Today the plan was to fight for bonus seconds, Northug said. I knew many skiers were saving energy for the finish. It will be a hard fight for the podium tomorrow. It has been a tough Tour de Ski. If you have a really bad day you can easily lose many minutes.
